While we all need to remain in quarantine for the time-being to do our part to help fight the spread of Covid-19, I have definitely found myself trying to find the right balance between cooking and takeout. My mom is an incredible cook and growing up we rarely would order takeout since we were fortunate to have home cooked meals. She would graciously cook four different meals for all four of us children since, of course, we couldn't all just eat the same thing to make her life easier.
The kitchen was the gathering place for any and all family and friends who have ever step foot in our house growing up. We'd snack all day, then eat dinner, then eat a second dinner when someone had friends over, and then sometimes leftovers would come back out around midnight. And if we went out and came back after the bars closed, my mom was there to greet us with a "what can I make for you". Long story short, I've always loved being in the kitchen reheating leftovers or cooking pasta from scratch. To this day, when I go back home to Pittsburgh, you'll likely find me in the kitchen cooking and hanging out.
Since we're not able to go out to dinner with family or friends, we now have to balance cooking every night with actually ordering in food. We never order in food despite being in one of the best restaurant neighborhoods in Chicago. We always prefer to go out to dinner on the weekends and cook during the weeknights.
As I've been cooking these past two weeks, I wanted to see what others favorite recipes are and share those with you! So, I reached out to many of the menswear accounts I've been following for several years to see what's on the top of their cooking lists these days. Check out all their favorite recipes below!
@DapperProfessional
I'll kick things off with one of my favorite recipes that can make the best and healthiest bagels you'll ever have. The same recipe can also be used for pizza dough to make a healthy, hearty pizza!
@ChrisMehan
These baked chicken wings are one of Chris's favorite recipes of all time. For good measures, he also wanted his favorite guac recipe included!
@M_Hoye
Matt wouldn't consider him a chef, but he is a master of breakfast foods with his favorite being poached eggs, bacon and avocado toast.
@Juust_Jake
"Truly such an easy recipe! The thing that takes the longest is boiling the water. Add some chicken or other protein if you want something more substantial! Definitely a comfort that makes quarantining more bearable!”
@Threadability
"This is my go to recipe for when I want pancakes but I don’t want to feel too guilty about them. They’re sweet and get me that breakfast fix."
@ScottBautista
Scott is always eating healthy and staying in shape, and this is one of his favorite recipes!
@Science.of.Style
"It's relatively healthy for what it is and it's quite a quick recipe too as I find making a traditional Mac and cheese takes quite a bit longer."
@TheSimpleGentleman
Larry enjoys his breakfast simple, easy and healthy!
@DylanBenjam
I love this meal because it's keto friendly and I don't ever get tired of it. I can meal prep it once a week. It's also a great way to go through all the chicken we stockpiled because of the virus scare!
@TheGentNextDoor
Even while pretty much quarantined, I try to get as much protein as I can. I’m usually a savory breakfast kind of guy-omelettes, oatmeal, that kind of thing. But on the weekends, I gravitate toward the sweet stuff of the bread-y variety. Alton Brown has been a favorite of mine for years, and I really enjoy his approach to cooking.
