BusTravel Iceland is offering a brand new tour to Snæfellsnes Peninsula and it is absolutely worth it if you have the time (https://bustravel.is/tours/snaefellsnes/snaefellsnes-peninsula)! This was a last minute trip for us that we booked once we were already in Iceland, and we are so glad we did! You hear and read a lot about traveling the south coast and heading north if you can, but we hadn’t heard anything about this western coast region, this made it an exciting opportunity! The trip itself really began when we saw the most beautiful sunrise of our entire trip. We were simply stopping for a bathroom break, but thankfully had the opportunity to catch it off the side of the road over the water. We then headed to Arnarstapi where we walked a path along the edge of cliffs overlooking the water. The scenery was stunning with interesting rock formations along the water and the snowy mountains in the distance. We also saw got to see where the Whitewalkers from Game of Thrones live, this was super cool. The last stop on this tour was a vast, mesmerizing black beach, truly amazing!
Our tour guide referred to himself as "The Eagle". He was probably the best tour guide we had while in Iceland. He is an Icelandic native, which made it very interesting to hear his perspective on a lot of the changes the country is experiencing as tourism is booming. He was very thorough with his explanations and knowledgeable beyond belief on a wide range of topics. His humor and general enthusiasm kept the tour bus awake, but he also gave everyone time to rest during the longer stretches of driving. He had a really great balance of everything!
